Student Loan- Scholarships And Student Loans Are Not The Same Thing

Student Loan- Scholarships And Student Loans Are Not The Same Thing

There are more opportunities than ever before for young people to make college a reality by using student grants, scholarships and student loans to pay for their college education. Some of these are offered by private individuals or companies and others are offered by the federal government. When accepting one of these opportunities, be sure to understand who is offering it and what your requirements may be regarding full or partial pay back of money loaned to you for an education.
Student grants usually pay for tuition costs. In some cases, grants may cover other expenses, such as text books. Grants are usually money given that does not have to be paid back, even after graduation. Most grants to students are issued by the federal government and are issued based on the financial status of the student or the students' parents or guardians according to their income tax statements.
Student grants are not the same as student loans. Loans must be repaid, usually beginning a few months after graduation. In some cases, the re payment of student loans can be postponed, such as during graduate school. Also, during tough economic times suspension of the payments might be granted for up to a year so that the student can find steady work before beginning to pay back the loans.
Sometimes scholarships are issued by private companies or even individuals. Many students are able to attend college on academic or athletic scholarships. These scholarships, depending on the amount and the terms, might cover tuition and text books as well as a living allotment as long as the student is enrolled in the academic institution. With some academic scholarships, the student is expected to perform community service in order to maintain eligibility for scholarship funds.
When a student is given a scholarship, they are usually expected to adhere to certain academic and moral standards. Many students have lost a good scholarship for failure to keep up their grades or for poor or unethical behavior during college. This would include on campus behavior, such as cheating, or off campus behavior, such as the use of illegal drugs.
Many students can qualify for grants, loans and scholarships but fail to apply for it. Talk to a high school or college student counselor or a financial aid officer on campus. Also, check the resources online and apply for as many as possible. With the cost of a college education ever rising, this money will allow you to get the education for a better life.
